Hayden Burgess has been exhibiting at Boyd-Dunlop Gallery for over five years and is continuously evolving and developing his creative practice and has built up a following of loyal collectors in Aotearoa and abroad. Recent paintings have evolved from iconography developed over the last fourteen months through a daily sketching practice. Sharing one sketchbook with his two young kids, their drawings and first attempts at writing have naturally found their way into the mahi.
The result is joyful, fun paintings with and amalgamation of influences from expressionism and neo-expressionism to modern day tattoo flash and street art. A pervading concept in Grimmy's work is the reminder to be grateful and present and maintain a positive mental attitude.
