The title is a statement rather than a question, suggesting a conclusion that has already been reached, even if the joke itself remains elusive. There is a sense that something is unfolding just beyond our understanding, that the punchline exists, but perhaps not in the place we expect to find it. The marks appear almost familiar before dissolving back into the surrounding darkness yet there is no single point of resolution.
I am particularly interested in the space between recognition and uncertainty, where the mind tries to complete what it cannot quite see, like passing through a forest trail at night time.
Humour is a way of confronting the uncomfortable, of finding light in the dark, a means of making sense of things that might otherwise feel overwhelming. But I think jokes don’t always provide relief. Sometimes the absurdity is the point. Sometimes the comedy is simply the fact that we continue to search for an explanation.
