Karaitiana uses curios and found artefacts from museums and collections to build the rebel flags inspired by those used by Te Kooti.  Exploring symbolism and iconography relating to Maori land sovereignty and retelling the history of land wars in Aotearoa through these artworks.  This one is centered round the defense of the whenua in Te Matau a Maui from the pressures of the north.  The fish are kingfish or Haku as found on pou or paddles housed in a Denmark museum and the plant depicted is Tarata which is a rongoā. The land seen on top of the musket comes from the surveys made of the country by Sidney Parkinson.
