This series of paintings are an environmental musing, a comment on the role we as humans could and ought to play within the natural world- one of protectors and guardians rather than as the exploiters and destroyers we so often appear to be.

In Viewpoint the bird is the Rifleman, Maori name Titipounamu, and in Sanctuary the bird is the Grey Warbler, Maori name Riroriro. In both paintings the birds show no fear of human contact- rather they are portrayed as feeling safe and have trust in this contact.
