Based on a old whakairo pattern know as Rauponga (the leaf of the Ponga tree) in particular the display panels of master carver Anaha Te Rahui c 1909. This was one of the first, if not the first modern whakairo recreating/adapting a historical panel using modern technology of computer controlled files and cutters.
