The two artworks presented in this exhibition are part of the series: Surface of the Unspeakable.
In these works, I used the accumulation of layers, the repetition of shapes, and the superimposition of elements to construct a fragmented visual narrative.
I deliberately chose pink and red as dominant colours, challenging their traditional connotations and transforming them into tones that convey intensity, excess, and emotional weight. These vibrant hues, set against geometric figures, characters, and shifting structures, create a tension between the structural and the organic, the meticulous and the spontaneous.
Phrases drawn from my work agenda are embedded within the painted layers, generating a space where the everyday becomes abstraction. Currents of colour sweep across the surface like gusts of wind or drifting mists, evoking a changing and unpredictable atmosphere.
Marisa Bernotti Bio
Marisa Bernotti (she/her) was born in Montevideo in 1978, has lived most of her life in the rural town of Dolores. Only 4% of the population of Uruguay live in the rural area. She is a multidisciplinary artist, mother and entrepreneur. She is member of the Board Director at the Agricultural Association of Dolores.
Bernotti blends her work as an agricultural machinery parts distributor with performance, paint and drawing to reveal the complexity between environmental degradation, capitalist patriarchal structures, and holistic agricultural models in rural Uruguay.
Bernotti holds a degree in economics and was selected as one of Uruguay´s fifty leading women in 2025 for the SW50 program, receiving a scholarship from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), United Kingdom. She has participated in artist-in-residence programs internationally, including Barac (Germany), Peoria Art Guild (Illinois, USA), and the School of Visual Arts in New York (USA).
Bernotti's works have been exhibited in museums, universities, fairs and galleries in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania. Her work is in the permanent collection of King's College, Cambridge, London, UK; as well as in the collection of the Riverfront Museum in Peoria and in Pinacoteca of Mercedes, Cultural Department of Soriano in Uruguay.
