SIMON KERR

The Elusive Messiah

acrylic on canvas

1215 x 910mm

$4,500

This artwork serves as a deeply personal exploration of Simon's complex relationship with Religion, symbolised through various elements such as the crown representing his search for the elusive Jesus, religious icons floating across the canvas, and the decay of traditional religious structures depicted by the dilapidated chapel. The incorporation of his birth dates highlights his life’s timeline, while the apple from the Garden of Eden and the 10 commandments signify the complexities and challenges of faith. The imagery of the old priest and the decline in Christian followers reflect Simon's perception of the waning influence of religion, as he metaphorically illustrates his struggles and painful experiences in his quest for spiritual connection, represented by the spears and blood in the bull.
