Warhol, Basquiat and Talita - A Collaboration in Six Hands, 2025

acrylic on canvas

1000 x 800 mm

Imagine yourself transported to an art gallery in the late 80s. As you enter the space, you are immediately immersed in the vibrant energy and explosion of colours emanating from this canvas. It's as if the very essence of contemporary art has been captured and materialized in this work.

Between 1984 and 1985, two giants of art, Andy Warhol (1928-1987) and Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), united distinct universes and created around 160 paintings in collaboration, in a true "quatre mains" dialogue. Now, the artist herself joins this iconic encounter, reinterpreting and reaffirming the power of this creative partnership in a "six hands" collaboration.

Warhol, with his aesthetics of consumption and mass images, and Basquiat, with his raw, visceral energy and loaded with symbols, challenged artistic boundaries by juxtaposing and harmonizing two seemingly opposing worlds. The artist, in turn, adds her own voice to this conversation, creating a vibrant and contemporary reinterpretation of that historic moment.

In this work, Warhol and Basquiat are embraced at the centre of the canvas, their faces close, as if sharing a secret, a deep connection that transcends their differences. The artist joins them, creating a six-handed dialogue, where her own interpretations and symbols mingle with those of the masters of Pop Art and Neo-Expressionism.

In the background, a reinterpretation of one of the four-handed creations emerges as a living echo of that moment, now transformed and reaffirmed by the artist's vision. The canvas is a tribute to the power of Pop Art and the intensity of Neo-Expressionism, where vibrant colours, symbols, and overlapping strokes engage in a dialogue, creating a sense of movement and dynamism.

By reinterpreting this legendary encounter, the artist invites us to confront, converse, and reinvent art, just as Warhol and Basquiat did. Like them, she believes that art is strengthened in the encounter, in the contrast, and in the freedom to dare. This work is a celebration of this belief, inviting the public to immerse themselves in the creative universe of these three masters and to be enveloped by the energy that emanates from this iconic partnership.
