Paper Doll is my response to the question "Why don't you make prints of your paintings?".
One of the purposes of prints is to make artwork more accessible by allowing more people to afford it, but I can't help but think that if something is more affordable it is also more discardable, and I don't like the idea of my work in a landfill so I thought to myself Yes I can make prints, but I would do it by hand and in oil paint.
Mimicking a series of stacked prints causes the reproductions within Paper Doll to function as compositional elements rather than a device for reducing value.
However trompe l'oeil the effect, the hand painting shows evidence of human imperfections that make up the subjectivity, aura, and scarcity of original artwork.
The figure an anonymous subject and homage to my past when I lived in South-east Asia - the perfect doll to reproduce in the effect of paper.
